L1 Precision Tree Felling, Chainsaw Safety & Handling

The participants will learn and apply effective tree felling methods through systematic planning and skillful implementation of the work plan. A practical understanding and application of leverage, mechanical advantage, and ergonomics, as they relate to precision tree felling, removal and chainsaw handling, will be taught, demonstrated and practiced. Students will learn, develop skills and measure their own results.

DURATION:

 2-Day Module

COURSE OUTLINE:

  • Safety and Risk Management
  • Chainsaw Handling and Operation
  • Precision Cutting Methods and Best Practice
  • Planning Procedures
  • Leverage and Mechanical Advantage
  • Preventative Maintenance and Sharpening
  • C.O.D.I.T.

WHAT TO BRING:

Students are encouraged to bring any equipment they use and/or would like to discuss with the instructor.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Required
  • Hard hat
  • Ear protection

  • Participants must be at least the age of majority in the state that classes are being held and hold full time employment in the green industry, or other related role in which you use tree worker/arborist equipment on a regular basis. Courses not offered to private homeowners or for recreational tree climbing purposes.

L1 Tree Climbing Methods, Work Positioning & Best Practice

Participants will be educated and trained in modern tree climbing methods and learn about the methods, systems, and techniques that make tree climbing and work positioning safer, easier, and more efficient. The differences between Moving Rope Systems (MRS) also known as Doubled Rope Technique (DdRT) and Stationary Rope Systems (SRS), commonly called Single Rope Technique (SRT) will be discussed and examined. Learn through both theoretical and practical learning activities how to make the fundamental physics & mechanical advantage in your climbing system work for you. This course will also introduce work positioning best practices with hand saws & chainsaws emphasizing safety, skill, and productivity.
